The team behind the Northumbrian

Steve Cram CBE

Founder

Steve founded the Kielder Marathon back in 2011 and has spent many years exploring the beautiful surroundings in this hidden part of Northumberland, and has been dreaming up this epic challenge since the very first marathon. Olympian and former 1500m, Mile and 2000m world record holder. One of the UK’s most well known sporting individuals, with a career in what was the golden age of British middle distance running. Steve has a wealth of experience and knowledge, and is now Chief Athletics Commentator at the BBC, as well as coach to commonwealth silver medalist Laura Weightman.

Marcus Cram

Route Design

The Northumbrian is a family adventure for its organisers. Marcus, son of Steve, is a well known competitive cyclist in the North East. Racing for Blaydon CC up to National Level on the road and Hill Climbs, he is no stranger to the epic climbs and beautiful rolling scenery to be found around Kielder. Marcus completed Nice Ironman back in 2017 in an impressive 11 hours 3 minutes, and has been itching to organise this event ever since. The bike routes are fully designed and tested by Marcus...we challenge you to seek out his impressive KOMs on the course!
